How to Check What AI Says About Your Brand
Lyudmila Pike from Pasay, Co-founder / CMO
The simplest way is to ask. But a one-time check is misleading: AI answers change with the wording, location, language and even the time of day. To track brand mentions in ChatGPT and other AI assistants reliably, checks need to be regular and use the same set of prompts every time.
Key takeaway
A one-off check misleads. Track brand mentions in ChatGPT and other assistants on a schedule, with the same prompts, sources, facts and snapshot comparisons.
Here is how we do it:
- take prompts from prompt research — the questions customers actually ask: "recommend…", "which is better…", "… reviews";
- ask them in ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot and Google search, where AI Overviews appear;
- record whether the company is mentioned, alongside whom and in what order;
- check which websites are cited as sources — yours or someone else's;
- verify the facts: does AI get prices, locations or services wrong;
- repeat the snapshot and compare it with the previous one.
If you want to try it yourself, follow three simple rules. Ask every prompt in a new chat with no history. Keep your location and language the same between checks. Save each answer with its source links and the date, so you have something to compare against next month.
We also look specifically for distortions: outdated details, reviews that belong to another business, confusion with companies that have a similar name. Telling the assistant it is wrong will not help — the next user will get the same answer. These errors are fixed through the sources AI relies on: your website and third-party listings, directories and publications. We cover the full method, including AI share of voice and sentiment, in how to track what AI says about your brand.
